Athern E. "Buck" Cunningham, 79, of Rossburg, passed away Wednesday afternoon, April 2 at his residence of a brief illness. He was born in Darke County near Dawn, son of the late Ellsworth and Vesta E. (Gunckel) Cunningham. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Bettie (Higgs) Cunningham, whom he married April 8, 1950 and passed away February 8, 1994. Buck was retired from Inland Steel in Greenville where he had worked as a die setter. He was a charter member of the Ansonia Area Rescue and was a Red Cross First Aid instructor for many years. He was the past president of the Silverado Saddle Club and the Darke County Horseshoe Club. He is survived by his second wife, Dolores (Rosell) Preston-Cunningham, whom he married July 15, 1995; his children, Debbie (Patrick) Barga of Greenville, Cindra (Paul) Fleenor of Versailles, Steve (Larissa) Cunningham of Union City, OH; step children, Deb (Ron) Crist of Bradford, Cindy Pierson, Pam (Bruce) Hunt, Sondra (Mark) Edger, Dixie Sonner (and friend Nick Camacho) all of Greenville; 11 grandchildren; 10 step grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; 7 step great grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Wanda Hunley of Greenville. Services will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7 with the Pastor Steve Harman officiating. Burial will follow in the Stelvideo Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2-5 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Ansonia Area Rescue.
