Charles E. "Ets" Hiestand, 82, of New Weston, passed away Monday evening, November 24, 2008 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville. He was born in Rossburg, son of the late Charles F. and Minnie W. (Gates) Hiestand. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth E. (Liette) Hiestand on July 13, 2008; two brothers, Russell and Melvin Hiestand; and sisters, Lily Garrison, Rose Amstutz, Aileen Moody and Helen Orr. Charles was retired from Fram/Allied Signal where he had worked for 17 years. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in WWII where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Greenville and the Fram Retirees. He is survived by his sons, Phillip (Sandy) Hiestand of New Weston, Cyril (Deb) Hiestand of Union City, OH and Timothy Hiestand of Ansonia; grandchildren, Stephanie Crum of Coldwater, Tara Newbauer of Union City, LeAnn Foote of New Weston, T.J. Hiestand of Greenville, Matthew Hiestand of Union City and Michelle Dean of Arcanum; 12 great grandchildren; a brother, Nevin Hiestand of Greenville; sisters, Bonnie Rutchilling of Rossburg and Betty Schambach of Nebraska; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville, Saturday, November 29, at 10:30 a.m. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the American Heart Association.
