Frank Sheffer, 97, of Greenville passed away Saturday morning, December 29 at the Brethren Retirement Community in Greenville. He was born in Portland, In, son of the late Henry and Etta (Burr) Sheffer. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death bya grandson, Steven Sheffer; a granddaughter, Cheryl Stump; brothers and sisters, Ada Kochersperger, Grace Smith, Arlie Sheffer, Paul Sheffer, Henrietta Drake and Ernest Sheffer. Frank was a retired barber. He was a veteran of the US Army having served during WWII. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Greenville, The Greenville Kiwanis, the Greenville Masonic Lodge, the Antioch Shrine, the Scottish Rite and had sang with the Union City Barbershop Chorus. He had served on the Darke County Fair Board for 17 years which he was in charge of the Fine Art's Department. He loved all the divisions and parts of the Darke County Fair. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Louise (McClure) Sheffer whom he married June 4, 1939; children, Jeannette Davis and friend John Custer of Dayton, Rowena and husband Richard Stump of Greenville, Scott and wife Shirley Sheffer of Yorkshire and Charlene and husband Donn Thornhill of Greenville. Grandchildren, Leslie Totty, Allison Grundish, Melissa Stump, Gayle Combs, Kim Cromwell, Jody Lockhart, Tracy Sheffer, Chris Sheffer, Ben Williams and Jessica Williams-Baltes; great grandchildren, Samantha Grundish, Parker Grundish, Preston Grundish, Noah Totty, Luke Totty, Joel Combs, Cherith Combs, Andrea Combs, Rachel Rapsawich, Shantel Sheffer, Brandi Sheffer, Dalton Sheffer, Steve Sheffer, Clayton Sheffer, Cole Williams, Noah Baltes, Logan Baltes, Kyle Cromwell, Sara Cromwell, Lindsey Lockhart and Derek Lockhart. Great great grandchildren, Gage Ervin, Audrey Allread and Kendall Cromwell. Services will be held Wednesday, January 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home, Greenville with the Revs. Joe Payne and Dr. Fred Bernhard co-officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Greenville Township Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. with the Masonic Lodge Memorial Service at 7:45 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the First United Methodist Church.
