Harold E. "Gene" Strait, 73, of Greenville passed away Saturday evening July 21 at Wayne Hospital. He was born February 5, 1934 in Darke County, son of the late Charles M. and Alma (Rudolph) Strait. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death be his wife, Mary L. (Coblentz) Strait on February 19, 2004; 3 brothers, Clarence, Charles Jr. and Wayne Strait; and 2 sisters, Maxine Newland and a sister in infancy. Gene was retired from New Idea in Coldwater. He was a member of the former New Weston United Methodist Church and currently attended the Church of Christ in Greenville. He was also a member of the United Steel Workers of America Union. He is survived by his children, Melesa Westfall of Greenville; Galvin Strait of Greenville; Mike and wife Candi Melling of Ansonia; Mary Lou and husband Charlie Putman of Westerville; Teresa and husband Mike Batten of Ansonia; Brenda Strait and Carla and husband Danny Helm of Greenville; grandchildren, Holly Folkerth, Tosha Penny, Ryan Russell, Jerry Ausland, Nathan Putman, Justin Westfall, Jennifer Westfall, Sara Strait , Garrett Strait, Joe and Alyssa Batten and Amanda McGlinch; a brother Tim Strait of Tenn.; and a sister, Betty and husband John Waggoner of North Star. Services will be held Wednesday, July 25 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with Mr. Tyler Gray and Mr. Charlie Morgan co-officiating. Burial will follow in the Shook's Chapel Cemetery near Rossburg. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Cancer Association of Darke County.
