Helen L Hudson

Helen Hudson, 94, of Greenville passed away on November 29, 2013 at Brethren Retirement Community. She was born June 12, 1919 at home in Dayton, Ohio to the late Howard and Margaret Hudson. Her father, Howard, was in a retail milk business in Dayton for 30 years (including the depression years), supporting a family of 9 including her dad’s mother and father. Helen attended Anderson College. She worked at Monsanto’s Mound Lab where she worked on atomic energy projects. She retired from Monsanto after 26 years of service. Helen was a member of Salem Church of God since 1925. God allowed Helen to have two families; her birth family, The Hudsons, and her adopted family, The Finkbines. In addition to her parents, Helen is preceded in death by a brother, Sid Howard Hudson; two sisters, Doris Hudson Liffick and Winona Hudson Taylor; a nephew, Don Liffick; three great nephews, Billy, Taylor and Brock Hudson; and a brother-in-law, Therman Frost. She is temporarily leaving behind a sister, Hazel Frost; three in-laws, Pat Hudson, Bud Taylor, and Joe Liffick. Also surviving are nieces and nephews, Randy and Rick Hudson, Mark Frost, Bob Taylor, Deb (Taylor) Hardman, Patty (Taylor) Turner, Mike Liffick, Mike and Jeff Liffick families. In 1963, Helen met and adopted a young family; Bob, Sandy and Teresa Finkbine. Through the years two boys, Rob and Joe, were added to the family. She calls them her “adopted” family and the Finkbines and friends call her Aunt Helen. She loved to pray for each one of her two families and to be a helper, as she had a servant's heart. Aunt Helen is also survived by Bob & Sandy Finkbine; Michael, Teresa (Finkbine), Connor, and Brendan Woodin; Rob, Amy, Cody, Adrianna (Finkbine) Burnside, and Dakota Finkbine; Joe, April, Dylan, Justin, Carter, Noah, Alexis, Shelby Jo, and Jamie Grace Finkbine. Helen has lived 40 years with her adopted family on a farm in Darke County. Helen departed this life to go home, and she wrote during her high school years: “I know not what God’s heaven may be, but this I know, He loveth me….and so I trust!!”
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at 11:30 AM at Dayton Memorial Park Cemetery, 8135 North Dixie Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45414 with Rev. Joey Turner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Salem Church of God Children's Ministry, Castine Church of the Brethren Children's Ministry, or Oxford Bible Fellowship Children's Ministry, 800 South Maple, Oxford, Ohio 45056 with contributions being accepted at the funeral home.
