John Duane Waggoner

June 26, 1930 — February 16, 2022

John Duane Waggoner, 91, of North Star, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Village Green Health Campus in Greenville, Ohio.

He was born on June 26, 1930, in Rossburg, Ohio, to the late Samuel Glen and Ruth Loretta (Subler) Waggoner.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded by his grandson, Aaron Waggoner; his sons-in-law, Randall Swallow, Daniel Kender, and Dr. William Roberts; and his brothers-in-law, Floyd Griffith and Paul Thomas.

John was a graduate of Ansonia High School. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army where her served honorably and proudly as a medic. He was a member of the Ansonia VFW. He was self-employed as an electrician and was the owner of North Star Electric. John loved his family as he was close to his siblings and enjoyed being involved with his children and grandchildren. John's hobbies included fishing, gardening and cooking.

John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Marie (Strait) Waggoner, whom he married on May 27, 1954; his children, Denise Ann (Jeffrey) Opperman of Lexington, Indiana, Mary Rochelle Kender of Ansonia, Ohio, Loretta Catherine (Michael) Sacher of Celina, Ohio, and Jacqueline Joan Roberts of Yellow Springs, Ohio; his grandchildren, Matthew (Christine) Opperman of Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Charles (Sara) Opperman of Waynesville, Ohio, Maria (Ashish) Verma of Monroe, Connecticut, Nicole (Joel) Mead of Versailles, Ohio, Amy (Anthony) Goubeaux of Minster, Ohio, Lori Gengler of Celina, Mychael (Dylan) Arwood of Fairborn, Ohio, Julian Roberts and Griffin Roberts, both of Yellow Springs. John is also survived by 14 great grandchildren, 1 great-great granddaughter; and his siblings, Charlotte Griffith of New Iberia, Louisiana, Mary Thomas of Dayton, Jerry (Karen) Waggoner of Rossburg, and Ruth Jean (Lavern) Stammen of Coldwater, Ohio.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 15 E. Star Road, North Star, Ohio, with Fr. David Howard officiating. Burial, with full military honors provided by the Greenville Honor Guard, will follow at Shook Cemetery.

John's family will be receiving guests on Wednesday, from 9 AM until the time of the Mass at the church.
