LaVera C. Garland, 93, of Ansonia, passed away early Friday morning, June 27, 2008 at the Center of Hope in Union City. She was born in Darke County, daughter of the late Omer and Elsie (Sharp) Booker. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Taft Gibson in 1969; second husband, Everett Garland in 1997;and a daughter, Joann Gibson. LaVera spent most of her life as a homemaker. She did spend 12 years as a cook at the former Ansonia Inn. She was a member of the Ansonia United Methodist Church. She is survived by her children, Jerry (and friend, Marge) Gibson of Killeen, TX, Virginia (Ron) Whitesel of Union City, IN, Vera (Bill) Abel of Union City, OH, Velma (Robert) Breymier of Union City, OH, Marilyn (Chuck) Shields of Greenville and Gary (and friend, Michelle) Gibson of Greenville. Step children, James Garland of Pitsburg, OH, William Garland of Columbus, Everett Garland, Jr. of Greenville, Douglas Garland of Greenville, Bernice Rehmert of Hillgrove and Thelma Jean Murphy of Greenville;14 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; numerous step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren; a sister, Delores (George) Hesson of Versailles; and a brother, Donald (June) Booker of Greenville. Services will be held Wednesday July 2 at 10:30 a.m. at the Oliver-Floyd Funeral Home in Greenville with the Rev. Joe Royer officiating. Burial will follow in the Holsapple Cemetery near New Weston. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. The family requests that memorial contributions be given to the Ansonia United Methodist Church.
