Mary Ann Owens

May 31, 1937 — May 24, 2023

Mary Ann Owens, 85, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at Advent Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida.

She was born on May 31, 1937, in West Milton, Ohio, to the late Leonard and Mary Kathryn (Schlamb) Carnahan.

In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her first husband, Jimmie Lee Brandt; her second husband, William F. Owens; her son, Mark Brandt; and her brother, Larry E. Carnahan.

Mary Ann is survived by her children, Cindy (Randall) Forsyth of Goleta, California, Misty Rohrer of Palm Coast Florida, and Steve (Jenny) Rue of Santa Margarita, California; her 4 grandchildren; her sister, Carol L. Perko of Fallbrook, California; her sister-in-law, Mary Lou Carnahan of Torrance, California; and numerous extended family members throughout Ohio and California.

Mary Ann was a lady of many talents. As a young woman she sang barbershop harmony in Sweet Adelines and was part of a singing quartet called the Tone Teasers. A self-taught artist, she learned to draw with pencil and created many portraits, especially of her children and grandchildren. At the time of her death, she was working on a series of colored pencil cartoons called "The Perils to Little Critters from the Whimsical Mind of Mary A. Owens". She learned to work with clay and created amazingly detailed sculptures of both animals and people. The poetry collection that she wrote covers topics such as anti-bullying, the beauty of trees, and her love of God and Jesus.

Mary Ann was also an admirer of all things beautiful. She took pride in her large collection of dolls, horse and fairy figurines, and miniature creations of all kinds. She often had a story to tell about special items in her many collections. She loved taking walks in nature and often was inspired to burst out singing or see a topic for another poem in the beauty around her.

She was inseparable from her little chihuahua, Chachi. They spent many hours together taking walks or sitting side by side together on the couch. She often said she wouldn't know what to do without him.

Mary Ann loved her family and friends deeply. She strived to stay in contact with her childhood friends from Greenville as well as her many other friends made throughout the years. She offered compassion and friendship to everyone she met, often saying "I love to make people laugh". Her pure love for others and her amazing creativeness made the world a little richer during her stay.
