Mary Gennette Strickland

Mary Gennette Strickland, 65, of Greenville, Ohio, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.

She was born on February 27, 1957, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to the late Alton Strickland, Sr. and Jane (Floyd) Dispennette.

In addition to her parents, Gennette was preceded in death by her siblings, Alberta Mote, and Alton Strickland, Jr.

Gennette had an abundance of love to give and gave it freely. She loved her children and grandchildren. She had many "adopted" kids who all called her Mom. She enjoyed NASCAR and would always try to watch the races. She loved the beach, especially Emerald Isle in North Carolina.

Gennette is survived by her husband of 11 years, Charles Grider; her children, Tom (Amy) Johnson of Greenville, Angel (Keven) Vance of Troy, Ohio, John (Danielle Houck) Johnson of Greenville, Marie (Andrew) Eckhard of Land O Lakes, Florida, April (Vincent) Echevarria of Union City, Indiana, and Michael Johnson of Greenville; her step-children, Ashton Mangas of Portland, Indiana, Shannon (CJ) Wilds of Greenville, Dakota Grider of Greenville, Charles Grider, Jr. of Winchester, Indiana, and Heather (Richard) Gregorace of Greenville. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Cody, Bryon, and Kaylee Johnson, Sabrinna Crum, Eric, Kevin, Ian, and Hailee Johnson, Alexis Eckhard, Giovanni Echevarria, and Hailey Johnson; her step-grandchildren, Novayeh and Emily Mangas, Brailyn and Haisley Wilds, Michael Grider, and Sarah Gregorace; her great granddaughter, Aria Johnson; and many "adopted" children and grandchildren; and her brother, James Strickland of Connersville, Indiana.

Gennette's family will be receiving guests on Friday, July 29, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.
