Paul L. Bortner, 93, of Greenville, passed away on January 4, 2010 at the Brethren Retirement Community. Paul was born on January 12, 1916 in Lynn, Indiana, son of the late Elza and Anna (Moore) Bortner.

Paul graduated from high school in Fountain City, Indiana and was a wood pattern maker for NATCO (National Automatic Tool Company) in Richmond, Indiana for most of his life. Paul enjoyed camping and was a member of the Slo-Downers retiree camping club. He also enjoyed gardening, making clocks and helping people. Paul had been member of Prices Creek Church of the Brethren since 1955. Paul was a veteran and served honorably in United States Army.

Paul is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, A. Irene Bortner, whom he married on December 22, 1941; a son, Jerry and Margaret Bortner of Greenville; a daughter, Lois and Paul Moore of Southbend, Indiana; four grandchildren, Eric (Alicia) Bortner of Moline, Illinois, Mike (Elizabeth) Bortner of Tucson, Arizona, Jarrod Scott of Dallas, Texas, Katurah (Joe) Mindock of Chicago, Illinois and Paula (Mike) Greenwell of Redmond, Oregon; two great-granchildren, Lacey Mindock and Alan Mindock; and a brother, Francis (Margaret) Bortner of Redmond, Oregon.

Paul is preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest, Kenneth, Donald and Gerald Bortner and a sister, Helen Bortner.

A visitation is planned for guests on Thursday, January 7, 2010 from 4 – 7 PM at Storch Braund Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, January 8, 2010 also at the funeral home with the Darke County Honor Guard presentation beginning the service. A graveside service will follow at the Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City with the Rev. Don King and Rev. Todd Riesh being asked to officiate. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Brethren Retirement Community Resident Aid Fund or State of the Heart Hospice.
