Peggy Joan (Derr) George, 66, of New Madison, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at her home. Peggy was born February 5, 1942 to Roscoe and Mabel (Osborn) Derr in Union City, Indiana. Peg graduated from New Madison High School in 1960. She was employed at Wayne Hospital in Greenville, Ohio as a telecommunications operator. Peg was also co-owner of the New Madison Boot Barn and was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, Christian Women's Club and Bingo Gals of New Madison. She served on the Tri-Village School Fair Committee and volunteered with The American Heart Association and The Darke County Cancer Society. Peg was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother Michael Dwight as well as her grandparents, Carl Derr and Treva Derr and Walter and Mary Osborn. Peg is survived by her husband of 47 years, Richard W. George, a son Scott (Ruthann) George, two daughters, Monyca (Bob) Schlechty and Dawn (Kent) Mikesell, six grandchildren Kami (Adam) Hollinger, Kara (Zac) Graham, Josh (Amy) Schlechty, Stacia Mikesell and T.J. Holtz, Derick Mikesell and Sarah George; four great-children Jayden and Kasyn Hollinger and Cameron and Cadyn Schlechty, as well as sisters, Becky (Dave) George, Nancy Camacho, Patty (Joe) Jackson and brother Tom (Gina) Derr. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Castine Church of the Brethren with visitation one hour prior to the service. Calling hours will be Friday, July 25 from 4:00-8:00 PM also at the Castine Church of the Brethren. Services will be officiated by Eric Laux. Burial will be in Greenmound Cemetery in New Madison. The family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Darke County Cancer Society or to Reid Hospice of Richmond, IN. Condolences may be sent to the family at storchbraundfuneralhome.com. Services are entrusted to Storch Braund Funeral Home in New Madison.
