Darlene J. (Keaser) Grubb, age 66, of Greenville, Ohio passed away peacefully with family at her side after a strong and courageous battle with bulbar-onset ALS on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at the EverHeart Hospice Care Center in Greenville.
She was born on June 23, 1959, in Union City, Indiana to Marie (Kaiser) Keaser of Greenville and the late Charles “Charlie” Keaser.
In addition to her father, Darlene was preceded in death by her brother and his wife, Jeff and Ellie Keaser.
In addition to her mother, Darlene is survived by her husband of nearly 28 years, Greg Grubb, whom she married on May 16, 1998; her children, Justin and September Grubb of Covington, Michelle and Andy Poeppelman of Yorkshire, and Thomas and Hannah Shaw of Fort Recovery; her cherished grandchildren, Spencer and Kayce Poeppelman and Eleanor Shaw; her siblings, Terry and Marge Keaser, Susan and Michael Treadway, and Allen and Cheryl Keaser, all of Greenville; her in-laws, Cinda and Tom Deeter of New Madison; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Darlene was a 1977 graduate of Greenville High School. She began her career at Murphys in downtown Greenville, where she worked until the store closed. Darlene then started at K-Mart in Greenville, where she served as the receiving manager for 31 years until the store’s closing in 2014. Later that same year, Darlene joined the team at Rural King as the shipping and receiving manager, helping open the Greenville location, fittingly located in the former K-Mart building. She remained at Rural King until declining health prevented her from continuing her work.
Darlene also spent many years serving families during their most difficult moments while working at Tribute Funeral Homes and Brockman Boeckman Funeral Home. This work brought her great joy while she served alongside several members of her family.
Each August, Darlene looked forward to The Great Darke County Fair. She supported her children for numerous years while they showed dairy cattle. Later in life, Darlene, along with her husband, worked at the Waymire Utility Barn booth selling poly lawn furniture.
A devout Catholic, Darlene was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenville. While her children attended the school, she dedicated countless hours volunteering for school activities and fundraisers and was always eager to support the school community.
Shopping was one of Darlene’s favorite pastimes. She especially loved weekend shopping trips with her sister, often returning home with gifts she had thoughtfully purchased for others. Many summer weekends were spent camping at Grand Lake St. Marys, where she enjoyed time by the water and the relaxed pace of lake life. In recent years, those lake trips evolved into beach vacations. Each year, Darlene looked forward to traveling to Florida with her siblings. These trips often included dipping her toes in the sand and ocean and taking a picture of the sunset each evening. She also enjoyed planting flowers and spending time outdoors.
Family was truly the center of Darlene’s life and her greatest source of pride and joy. She supported her children in all their endeavors and was always there to encourage them. Three of the biggest joys in her life were her precious grandchildren who brought endless love, laughter, and pride to her heart. Whether soaking up the sun by the pool, spending time with her family, or cheering on the Ohio State Buckeyes, Darlene always had a smile. She remained optimistic throughout her life and had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone she met.
Darlene’s kindness, faith, and unwavering love for her family and friends will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with Father Matt Feist celebrating. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
Guests may visit with Darlene’s family on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 3:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Saturday, from 8:30 AM until 9:30 AM at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to OhioHealth’s ALS Clinic, United ALS, the staff of EverHeart Hospice, and all her family and friends for the care and compassion they have provided during this time.
Memorial contributions may be given to EverHeart Hospice or St. Mary’s Catholic School.
