Donald "Don" "Donnie" James Cruze, age 77, of Versailles, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2026 at Kettering Health in Troy, Ohio.
He was born on December 7, 1948 in Darke County, to the late Emit and Doreen (Butler) Cruze.
In addition to his parents, Don is preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Cruze, Ted Cruze, Bob Cruze; and girlfriend, Cathy Linder.
Those left to cherish Don's memory include his children, Michael Cruze, Jason (Nicole) Sears, Gary Cruze, and Sabrina Cruze; stepson, Matt Spitler; his brother, Chuck (Vanessa) Cruze; and twin sister, Donna (Jeff) Hall; grandchildren, Lane (Alexis) Cruze, Lily Cruze, Peyton Cruze, Kenzie Cruze, Cylie Sears, Caitlyn Sears, Dawson Cruze, Candace Cruze, Riverlin Sears, Aurora Sears, and Laken Sears; former wife, Mary Sears; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends from his apartment building that he cared deeply for.
Don enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and the people he loved most. He had a passion for collecting antiques, fishing, working on cars and small engines, and was a skilled locksmith. A devoted NASCAR fan, he especially enjoyed cheering on Dale Earnhardt and was also a fan of Roy Rogers. He loved country music, watching and reading classic Westerns, especially the novels of Louis L'Amour, and faithfully listened to Market Time. Don was a hardworking and dependable man who dedicated 19 years to caring for the apartment building where he lived, earning the trust and respect of those around him.
Above all, he deeply loved his children and family, working tirelessly throughout his life to provide for them. He treasured every moment spent with Cathy and Matt, whom he loved dearly. The family would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his friend, Charlie, for faithfully visiting him during his time in the nursing home. Don's kindness, loyalty, and unwavering love for his family will be remembered by all who knew him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Kettering Health in Troy and Versailles Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center.
Memorial contributions may be made to Versailles Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center or Miami County Cancer Foundation.
Private family services will be held. Burial will be held at Ithaca Cemetery (section 4, lot 174, grave 4).
