Greenville, Ohio

Douglas Isaac Wright, 74 of Greenville, passed away at his home on May 27, 2025.

He was born on March 18, 1951, in Randolph County, Indiana, to the late Beatrice and Carl Wright, Jr.

In addition to his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his daughter, Mallory Wright.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Saundra (McEowen) Wright, whom he married on June 7, 2003; his children, Chase (Jobi (Thanasongtrakul)) Wright, Kimberly (Jason) Huighe, and Jennifer Lopez (Bryan Reid); his step-son, Christopher Reier; his grandchildren, Jordyn Lopez, Michael Lopez, Jaxon Reid, and Genevieve, Giovanni, Adonis, Tyson, and Savannah Huighe; his siblings Mark (Teresa) Wright, and Lenny (Lisa) Wright; numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved pets, Bella and Lexi.

Doug was a 1970 graduate of Mississinawa Valley High School. He had a heart of gold and lived for helping people and his community, as exemplified by his 55 years as a firefighter, and his time on the Greenville City Council.

Doug served his community as a firefighter for over fifty years across three departments. He started his career in 1968 in the Union City, Ohio Fire Department, where he rose through the ranks, from firefighter, to Lieutenant, to Captain, to Assistant Chief, until his installation in 1998 as Fire Chief. While serving with the Union City Fire Department, Doug completed an Emergency Medical Services Training Course with the Trade and Industrial Services. Doug served as the Fire Chief for Union City until 2006. In 2008, he joined the Liberty Township Fire Department, where he served as the Assistant Chief from 2014 until 2021. Doug then served as the full time Fire Chief for Jefferson Township Montgomery County Fire Department from 2020 until his retirement in 2023. From 2023 until his death, Doug worked for Spirit Emergency Medical Services. He worked for his family's business, C.E. Wright Sons, Inc., and also with Cheeseman Trucking Company for 8 years.

Doug was a past president and lifetime member of the Central Western Firemen's Association (CWFA). He served on the Union City, Ohio City Council, the Greenville City Council for one full term from January 1, 2018, through December 31, 2021, and with the Greenville Planning and Zoning committee for the last year.

While Doug's commitment to serving his community kept him busy, he found time to relax and enjoy his family. He loved watching NASCAR. He also loved being outdoors, especially going fishing, working in his yard, and camping. Doug could often be found camping at Kozy campgrounds, where he would drive his golf cart around to visit other campers. He had many pets throughout the years and loved them all dearly; he especially enjoyed relaxing in his recliner with a beloved pet in his lap.
