George Junior Niswonger

George Junior Niswonger, age 99, of Greenville, passed away on Monday, May 11, 2026 at Everheart Hospice Care Center in Greenville. 

He was born on July 18, 1926 in Neave Township to the late George Roscoe and Leafie Glifton (Shoemaker) Niswonger.

In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by his loving wife, Helen Mae Niswonger; son in laws, Thomas Mowery and Lloyd Stinson; grandson, Derrick Mowery; brothers, Emil (Mary Alice) Niswonger and Jay Niswonger. 

Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters, Shirley Mowery of Greenville and Bonnie Stinson of Greenville; grandchildren, Tonia (Brian) Meade of Greenville, Brian Henson of Dayton, and Eric Henson of Greenville; great grandchildren, Eli Hathaway, Lane Mowery, and Kyeran Meade; great great grandson, Hudson Meade; and good friend, Patricia Younce.

George spent many years working as a dedicated semi-truck driver, traveling countless miles and taking pride in the hard work that came with life on the road. After retiring from trucking, he didn't slow down he returned to his roots and spent the next 20 years working on the farm, where he found joy in the land, the routine, and the satisfaction of a day's work well done. George believed in staying busy and lending a hand whenever it was needed.

He was also a proud member of the Eagles Lodge, where he enjoyed the friendships, and time spent with others in the community. George was an avid Harley Motorcycle rider, spending many vacations and trips with his wife on the bike. He had the privilege to ride until he was 75 years old. George will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his dependability, and his quiet appreciation for a simple, honest life. In honor of George, memorial contributions may be made to Everheart Hospice, Greenville.

A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus. 

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the funeral home.
