Harold A. Schaar, age 92 of New Madison, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 at Village Green Nursing Home.
He was born on May 30, 1931 to the late Otto and Ruth Schaar.
In addition to his parents, Harold is preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn Schaar; son, Rodger Schaar; granddaughter, Alexa Schaar; and great granddaughter, Whitney Sparks.
Harold is survived by his children, Randy and Brenda Schaar of New Madison, Ron and Melinda Schaar of Lewisburg, Rae Jean Collins of New Madison, and Rod and Rhonda Schaar of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Mica and Adam Spidel, MaKole Schaar and Duane Sparks, Tyler Cordle, Leslie and Josh Crye, Monica and Greg Selby, Erin Schaar, Amy and Chase Harshbarger, Jessica Collins, Taylor and Evan Barger, Austin and Marisa Schaar, Adam Schaar, and Alyse Schaar; 15 great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and several close friends.
He graduated from Monroe High School in 1951. Harold was a proud Veteran of United States Navy, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was a 62-year member of the American Legion Post 665, West Manchester. He retired from ODOT after working there for 17 years. Harold also farmed for a living. He enjoyed camping and being with his family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Harold lived a simple life; he was friends with many and a jack of all trades.
A visitation will be held from 4:00 PM-7:00 PM on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the funeral home with Pastor Tony Price officiating. Interment will follow at Otterbein Cemetery with Military Honors. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.tributefuneralhomes.com.
