Jan Ellen Rust

Jan Ellen Rust, age 78, of Troy, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Hospice of Miami County.

She was born on January 13, 1948, to the late James and Glenna (Poling) Sluterbeck.

In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Rust; her son-in-law, Kirt Chronister; and her sister, Judy Shahan.

She is survived by her daughters, Michelle "Misty" McCabe, Raquel "Kelly" (Chris) Rutherford, and Angela "Angie" (Kirt) Chronister; her grandchildren, Cameron (Lauren) Rutherford, Sabrina (Justin) Washington, Benjamin Chronister, Madelyn Chronister, and Cora Hernandez; and her great-grandchildren, Phoebe Rutherford, Ivy Rutherford, Selah McWilson, Luna Washington, Lovely Washington, and Zion Washington.

Jan lived life to the fullest. After retiring from Vectren in 2015, she started working as a co-manager of Anna’s Closet in Troy, after serving there for years. She absolutely loved being able to talk to all of the customers and help them find something special. She attended Ginghamsburg Church for many years and served with a number of other ministries during her time. She loved working outside, and spent many hours tending to her landscaping and flowers. And boy could she cook! If you were able to try her chocolate chip cookies, pies or homemade noodles, consider yourself blessed. If she had any time left in her day, you would find her crocheting, reading or restoring antiques that she found at an estate sale or even on the side of the road! But above all else, her family was her greatest joy, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought endless happiness to her life.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at Tribute Funeral Homes, Greenville Campus.

A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation on Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Eric Fee officiating.

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, Jan requested that a donation be made to Anna’s Closet.
