Jason Edgar Young, 91, Ansonia, Ohio, passed away peacefully on March 26, 2024, at The Ridge at Beavercreek.
Jason was born September 30, 1932, in the family home at Ansonia, the son of Carl and Lona (Armold) Young.
Jason served as Postmaster in Ansonia for nearly 33 years, serving from February 7, 1957, until his retirement on December 1, 1989. At 25 years of age, he was the youngest Postmaster in the country at that time. His confirmation was signed on July 16, 1958, by then President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Prior to his position as Postmaster, he owned the Mobile gas station in Ansonia and also worked on the railroad. He was an avid horseman and, in the early 60s to the mid-70s, the family traveled all over the U.S. showing their Appaloosa horses, winning five state championships and several national championships. He took a great deal of pride when, in 1966, he and his son, Kerry, won every award the Ohio Appaloosa Association offered. In later years, he became very passionate about harness racing and continued that successfully for many years. Jason also enjoyed a lifetime of farming, hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family. He was a lifetime member of the Free Masons, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the Elks, and the Moose.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kerry J. Young; and his sister, Lois M. Martin. He is survived by his daughter, Sherry Young of Columbus; his grandsons, Jason (Jenay) Young of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and Kavan (Tonya) Young of Cedarbluff, Mississippi; his granddaughter, Jessica (Justin) Wofford of Steens, Mississippi; his great-grandchildren, Jason (Jake) Young, Kirklyn Young, Abigail Young, Hayden Wofford, and Logan Wofford. He is also survived by nieces, Diana St Denis, Chris (Jack) Steele, and Ronda Hausen, plus many great nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the many friends who helped look after Jason these past few years and to the loving and caring staff of the Ridge at Beavercreek as well as Day City Hospice. Special thanks to Mark and Devyn Sink for always being there when needed. You are all truly appreciated.
