Lowell Swanson died on January 23, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio following a fall at home.
Lowell was born in Minneapolis on February 24, 1962. He was welcomed by Kenneth and Rita Swanson 6 weeks later. The family moved from Minneapolis to Greenville, Ohio, in 1967, where Lowell grew up.
He worked in his family’s lightning rod (and other) businesses, as a manager at Wendy’s, as an EMT and volunteer fire fighter, and as an EMT and CPR educator. For the past twelve years, he was a safety officer at DMAX in Dayton. He also provided security for church groups, particularly youth groups. All along the way, Lowell left a trail of stories of support and encouragement. He was, as one friend said, “a kind and gentle soul.”
Lowell was preceded in death by his dad, Kenneth Swanson, and his brother, Wayne Swanson. Lowell is survived by his mother, Rita Swanson, some cousins, and a collection of friends and lives he touched across his whole life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Laura Fire Department, 10 N Main St, Laura, OH 45337.
A service honoring Lowell will be held at a later time.
