Mary Lou Thwaits

Mary Lou Thwaits, age 90, of Greenville, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 at Rest Haven Nursing Home in Greenville.

She was born on February 20, 1936 in Ansonia, Ohio to the late Raymond and Mildred Hole.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Lester Thwaits of 72 years, whom she married in Portland, Indiana in 1953; her parents in law, Edward and Ethel (Thomas) Thwaits; and siblings in law, Marjorie Goodpaster, Arlene (Bill) Ahrns, Marilyn Charles, Wilbur Thwaits, and Esther (Lawrence Oaks) Ross.

Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Ann (Jed) Brubaker of Greenville, and her three grandchildren, Rhiannon Brubaker of Greenville, Taylor (Brandey) Brubaker of Arcanum, and Logan (Kaila) Brubaker of Arcanum; her great grandchildren, Lennon and Laikyn, and Beckett, Berklee, and Bridger; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Lou had a vibrant spirit and enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. She loved getting dolled up, animals especially cats and her pet monkey growing up, and working part-time at Merle Norman in Greenville. She found joy in traveling, listening to music, sewing, and was an avid fan of Elvis Presley. One of her greatest passions was horseback riding, often riding bareback whenever she had the chance. She was also a member of the Greenville VFW Post #6734.

Family was the center of Mary Lou's world. She cherished every moment spent with her loved ones, and her life revolved around caring for and supporting them.

Growing up, Mary Lou's parents owned and operated a grocery store in Hillgrove, Ohio. Helping in the family business was a significant part of her childhood and helped shape the hardworking, caring woman she became.
