From there, she joined Ansonia Schools where she taught 4th grade for 26 years, retiring in May of 2002. While at Ansonia, Nancy was honored as Teacher of The Year in 1994. She was also recognized as a Jennings Foundation Scholar which celebrates those teachers who bring excellence to teaching in Ohio. Nancy enjoyed participating in and applying her knowledge to many volunteer activities including serving as a board member for the Darke County Board of Mental Retardation and Development Disabilities for 6 years, helping high school students with their scholarship applications through the Darke County College Access Program, and often sharing ideas with local, state and federal representatives on how local education efforts could be improved. Nancy was a life-long active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal church.

Nancy loved to spend time with family, neighbors and a large group of friends. She was well known for her exemplary cooking skills and her homemade pies. One of her gifts was delivering amazing homecooked meals and pies to people in her community, always looking out and caring for others. Nancy’s bridge playing career spanned over 60 plus years and she was a very skilled bridge player. She had a very close group of precious friends who brought such joy, laughter and happiness to her life. They would often go on “Queen of Hearts” retreats at different destinations and spend several days just playing bridge and enjoying deep fellowship. She also loved being involved in the lives of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and truly cherished the personal time she had with them. She always made a point to stay connected and be present for them in their lives. One of Nancy’s favorite times of year was Christmas, and she certainly knew how to make it magical for her family and friends with her festive decorations, delicious meals and games that filled the home with laughter and love.
