Shirley Irene Hawkey

Shirley Irene Hawkey, age 86, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2026 at her home.

She was born on May 31, 1939, to the late Louis and Ethel (Weaver) Hawkey.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Hollie Hawkey; and her siblings, Kent Hawkey, Doug Mabry, and Rob Mabry.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cora Starling; her son, Dennis (Rebecca) Hawkey; her stepson, Greg Hawkey; her grandchildren, Evan Starling, Hannah (Ethan) Smith, and Katherine (Joey) Hackleman; and seven great-grandchildren.

Shirley worked at Alcoa in Richmond, Indiana, where she built lasting friendships and dedicated herself to her career until her retirement. Even after retiring, Shirley remained active and involved, serving as president of the Alcoa Retirement Club and was a member of the Purdue Master Gardener Association. Her leadership and commitment reflected her passion for community and lifelong learning.

Shirley had a true love for gardening and took great pride in her flowers and plants, finding peace and fulfillment in nurturing them. She also enjoyed traveling and creating meaningful memories along the way, but nothing brought her greater happiness than spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was always a place of warmth, laughter, and love.

A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, January 23, 2026, at Tribute Funeral Homes Greenville campus. Burial will follow in Monroe Cemetery.

Guests may visit with Shirley's family on Friday from 10:00 AM until the start of the service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
